                                CRAIG

I've trained in different forms of Martial Arts for 20 years. I began my journey with boxing and kickboxing, introducing Aikido a little further down the line and going on to fight competitively. More recently, I incorporated Muay Thai, Jiu Jitsu and Silat into my training.

Always driving to learn and improve, my ongoing journey into self defence brought me to Krav Maga, which had me hooked from the 1st session. The simplicity and effectiveness appealed to me. I could see how it could be applied, with ease to real life situations. Wanting to grow my knowledge and experience I took my instructors course. I continue to learn and grow with some of Europe’s leading self defence and Krav Maga instructors.

                                            What is Krav Maga?

Krav Maga (Hebrew for Contact Combat) consists of a wide combination of techniques sourced from Boxing, Muay Thai, Judo, Jujutsu, Wrestling and Grappling, along with realistic fight training.

Krav Maga is a very modern and practical self defence system that is the only style worldwide known as an art of self defence and not as a martial art.

Krav Maga isn't about being tough, it's not about learning how to fight in a ring, it's about getting home safe no matter the situation

Krav Maga can therefore be described as a survival system dealing with personal safety issues in the context of defending against both armed and unarmed attackers.

Kev has over 40 years of martial arts experience, with extensive knowledge across various fighting styles, listed below. His core discipline is Bushido Jiu-Jitsu, but to become a well-rounded martial artist, he pursued training in JKD concepts as well as Malaysian stick and knife fighting techniques. In 2007, Kev earned his 4th Dan Black Belt in Bushido Jiu-Jitsu.

What is bushido Jiu-Jistsu?

Japanese:  Jūjutsu,  also known as jiu-jitsu and ju-jitsu, is a family of Japanese martial arts and a system of close combat (unarmed or with a minor weapon) that can be used in a defensive or offensive manner to subdue one or more weaponless or armed and armored opponents. It was coined by Hisamori Tenenuchi when he officially established the first school of jiu-jitsu in Japan. A subset of techniques from certain styles of Jujutsu were used to develop many modern martial arts and combat sports, such as judoaikidosamboARBBrazilian jiu-jitsu (via judo), and mixed martial arts.

Japanese jujutsu systems typically put more emphasis on throwingpinning, and joint-locking techniques as compared with martial arts such as Karate, which rely more on striking techniques. Striking techniques were seen as less important in most older Japanese systems because of the protection of samurai body armor and because they were considered less effective than throws and grappling so were mostly used as set-ups for their grappling techniques and throws, although some styles, such as Yōshin-ryūTenjin Shin'yō-ryū and Kyushin-ryū had more emphasis on striking. However, many modern-day jujutsu schools include striking, both as a set-up for further techniques or as a stand-alone action.

I found Craig's self defence classes invaluable. As a female, I do have concerns about being out and about on my own and finding myself in situations where my safety may be in danger. Craig broke everything down into bite size chunks and simplified movements so that they were much easier to remember. Plenty of time was given to practice the movements and to gain confidence and muscle memory. Craig is full of knowledge and his love for the subject shines through in his passion. I would highly recommend this course to anyone. I now feel much more comfortable being out alone and that is thanks to Craig's tuition!
